121 Training

121 training is for common training issues like recall, pulling on the lead or jumping up on people. Most often needed for teenage dogs, rehomed dogs or those with a particularly wild streak!

It is usually aimed at helping dogs with a lack of self control, overexcitement or frustration issues These may show up as any of the following:

• being overly boisterous with other dogs
• pulling on the lead
• not coming back when called
• jumping up on visitors
• excessive barking in the garden or out the window
• ignoring general obedience cues
• not being able to settle in public places

All of these issues can be really difficult for owners and our usual reaction is to try and quash the behaviour by telling them off or simply avoiding troublesome situations. Neither of which is an ideal solution long term and you get stuck in a never-ending cycle or a battle of wills.

Puppies are like sponges when young so getting the training right from day one is important and will make it far easier in the long term.

Standard puppy training is for teaching puppies to walk nicely on the lead, come back when called and cues like 'leave' or 'wait'.  I also help to teach puppies about resilience and how to cope with frustration or boredom. 

Puppy training is designed to suit your individual needs and can cover any basic training as well as essential life skills. This may look like:

• walking nicely on lead
• coming back when called
• focusing on you on walks and being able to ignore dogs/people
• appropriate greetings to visitors
• appropriate social skills with other dogs (on and off lead)
• waiting still whilst getting a collar/harness on or for food bowl to go down
• dropping or swapping things you don't want them to have
• settling in public places such as the vets or at a cafe
• being handled by strangers
