A complete assessment and support package to understand why your dog is struggling and create a practical plan to help improve their behaviour. You will receive a clear explanation of what is driving your dog's behaviour, alongside practical guidance, a written plan and ongoing email support to help you make lasting changes.
The way a dog behaves develops through a combination of its breed, genetics, individual personality, early learning, life experiences and any health issues. My job is to put together all the different pieces of the puzzle which tell me your dog’s story, so we can work together to create a plan to change their behaviour.
Includes:
✓ 30 mins pre-visit call
✓ 2-hour home consultation
✓ Full behaviour assessment
✓ Full written behaviour plan
✓ 1-hour follow-up visit
✓ 3 months' email support
✓ Vet liaison where required
A dog's behaviour can sometimes feel embarrassing, frightening or overwhelming. These challenges are stressful not only for owners, but for the dogs experiencing them too. Behaviour consultations are for dogs with issues that are based in emotions such as fear and lead to issues like phobias, reactivity or aggression.
I only see a small number of clients and ensure I give my full attention to every case. In return I ask for clients to be fully committed to implementing the changes and keeping in touch on a regular basis with progress updates.
Every plan is tailored specifically to your dog, your family and your lifestyle. You'll understand why your dog behaves this way and exactly what to do next, with practical guidance that's realistic to follow.
I don't believe in quick fixes. I use ethical behaviour modification methods that aim to change the underlying emotional state driving the behaviour. Many owners understandably try to stop behaviours such as growling because they can be worrying or difficult to manage. However, simply suppressing a warning signal does not address the underlying emotion causing it. For example, if a dog growls because they feel worried, punishing the growl may stop the warning behaviour but does not change how the dog feels. In some cases, removing that warning signal can increase the risk that the dog may skip warning signals and progress to a more serious response.
If you are not sure where to start then an assessment visit can give you an overview on whatever issue you are facing. I offer a 90-minute assessment to give you a better understanding of what may be contributing to the behaviour, along with some initial management strategies. This might be for a new behaviour issue that has cropped up, something long term that you aren't sure can be changed or simply to get an expert eye on some behaviours in your dog that you aren't sure about.
Please note: for behaviour modification cases, a veterinary referral is required before a full consultation, as underlying health issues can sometimes contribute to behaviour Assessments are not suitable for cases involving aggression or significant reactivity towards people, where a full consultation and behaviour plan are required.
Assessment visits are the equivalent of the first hour of the full consultation service and can be followed up with the additional hours/sessions and the cost deducted from the full package price.
Assessment visits are priced at £120 and include a 1 page written summary.
Reactive dogs often benefit from additional practical support alongside their behaviour consultation. This package gives owners the opportunity to practise techniques, build confidence and apply strategies successfully during real walks. . By reactive this means dogs who react by barking, growling or lunging at other dogs or people. It is aimed at helping manage and decrease the level of reactivity that happens when you go for a walk.
